    I don’t advise this. Usernames do not change, but users should be able to change their email address.

  2. I love this, and i agere with John, but under the right circumstances an email Will ve just as good as an username. We have made many sites for internal usages, where the username and email are the same i.e. Initials@companyname.com. Here the email could just aswell be their login

    is to be changed in the sitecore.config with patch? Not in web.config.

    Yes, from Sitecore 8 and forward, all these settings have been moved away from web.config and into it’s own config file, the sitecore.config.
    Previously, from 7.5 and backwards, all settings were part of the web.config.
